Fried chicken, burgers, pizzas, French fries, steak, fish & chips, pork chop, chicken chop, and so many more! Despite Singapore being in South East Asia, we do have a fair need for western cuisine. Logically speaking, Britain did colonize us for a long while so we have learned their cuisine as well.
Over the years, Western cuisine in Singapore has developed as much as the country. From British food to Italian, French, Greek, Romanian, and Spanish, we have them all. We simply love good tasting food regardless of nationality.
Fried Chicken Wings
Some of the most common Western dishes one will find in every corner of Singapore is fried chicken wing. It is not only Kentucky Fried Chicken or McDonalds that are serving them. You will find fried chicken wings at hawker centres, restaurants, bars, pubs, and cafes. It is that one dish that almost everyone is selling because it is such a necessity in our diet that we may not notice.
It is that basic dish that every western F&B outlet should have!
Mac & Cheese
This is one dish that is always being ordered for kids in western restaurants. Kids love it no matter which country they are from. It is almost like a childhood food addiction for those below 7 years old. Even though it is as simple as macaroni and parmesan, it eases the difficulty most parents face when they bring their kids out for meals.
Fish & Chips
This is a hot dish consisting of fried fish in batter served with chips or we call them French fries. The dish originated in England and is an example of culinary fusion of its two main ingredients, each brought by immigrants. Then, it was brought to Singapore when we were colonized. It has been in our country for a very long time thus, making it one of the basic western dishes we can find in restaurants today.
Hamburgers
There have been many claims to where this dish originated ─ Germany and United States in specifics. But there is no conclusion to it other than it is one of the most globally known western cuisine. A hamburger may consist of one or more cooked patties of ground meat ─ pan fried, grilled, smoked or flame broiled. Hamburgers are often served with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, bacon, or chilis. Condiments such as ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish, or “special sauce” are used to make the dish taste even better. There are more and more specialty burgers that are showing in our culinary world.
French Fries and Chips
Literally any western restaurant, bistro or stall would have these items on their menus. These potato-based snacks are popular within the young and old. They are simply batonnet or allumette-cut deep-fried potatoes.
Potato Wedges
Potato wedges are often large and unpeeled potatoes that are either baked or fried. They are commonly sold at diners and fast food restaurants. In Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand, potato wedges are a common bar food, that are almost always served with sour cream, mayonnaise, and sweet chilli sauce. They are not considered French fries.
Pasta
Mama Mia! No Italian cuisine F&B outlet can be open for business without pasta. Restaurants would usually serve Angel Hair, Linguine, Jumbo Shells, Elbow Macaroni, Farfalle Bow Ties), Fettucine, and Fusilli. However, there are more than 350 kinds of pasta in the world. These pastas are usually served with tomato pasta sauce(marinara), carbonara, ragu, pesto, brown butter, and alfredo. It is important to use high quality fresh pasta to provide your customers with the best pasta dish.
